General Gardening Tips

Gardening Tip 1
Michigan is in Zone 5 on the Michigan Frost Zone Map generally speaking most Michigan Annuals will be safe from frost after Memorial Day.

Gardening Tip 2
Well tilled Nutritious Soil that drains well is a must for a Healthy Garden. By adding a few bags of topsoil, some mulch, and manure and mixing with your existing soil you can create the perfect mix for Growing Michigan Flowers.

Gardening Tip 3
When Planting your Michigan Garden dig the hole slightly larger and deeper than the plant, place a small amount of potting soil in the hole and cover the root ball. Make sure that the top of the root ball is level with the surface. New Garden Plants should be watered immediately after planting. Planting your Garden late in the day will also help relieve heat stress.

Gardening Tip 4
During the hot Michigan Summers it is important to keep you Garden Plants watered well. When poking your finger into the soil it should be moist but not soaking wet if the soil feels dry it is time to water.

Gardening Tip 5
Your Michigan Garden Plants and Flowers need to be fertilized on a regular basis. I find that using a good commercial Plant Food such as Miracle Grow applied with a hose end sprayer about every 3 weeks will produce excellent results as well as more Flower Blooms.

Gardening Tip 6
Deadheading "removing the spent blooms" is important to achieve the maximum amount of flowers. Dead and dying flower blooms drain energy from your plants, pinching these off encourages new Flower Blooms.
