I too believe that being on methadone for six years completely held me
back from my true recovery. I traded heroin for something much, much worse.
After going through a slow torture by weaning myself off over 18 months, I
then went through 20, I repeat ,20 months of further withdrawals until my
body got back to normal. If it was up to the staff at the clinic I would
still be on it.
My advice to any addict would be inpatient treatment. It is better to
just go through 3-6 days of heavy withdrawal than to go through the torture
of coming off of methadone.
