I started enjoying wine early in life, when we had
a special occasion and i was allowed a sip of sherry I
always took a big sip and felt myself changing from an ugly girl to quite witty. I
celebrated my 18th birthday by getting drunk on 3.2 beer, Papst
Blue Ribbon! then got married
at 19 to a French chef who always enjoyed wine with dinner and didn't mind buying
his wife a bottle of wine when he went to work.
I discovered bars and
my drinking became dangerous, When my husband was at work I
would go to the favorite bar and drink, get drunk, fool around and be home before
he came home from work. There are a lot of things that I
don't remember during those next ten years, except a DWI, another husband, the
same pattern all over and a lot of hangovers. I think to be honest
I must have slept with hundreds of men during those
years, always promising myself that I would quit
drinking. I then divorced my second husband and met husband #3 who had a 4 year
old daughter ( I could never have kids) he did not drink
at all and never said too much about my drinking even when I
ran over his daughter's bike one wild night!
To make a long story short after my hysterectomy
I became very depressed and went through a pattern where
I couldn't sleep so I started
taking OTC sleep medication with wine and beer and ended up in the psychiatric
hospital. They started me into AA and I have been sober
for 9 years and 3 months! I still find it hard as my
whole personality has changed, I became more withdrawn
and don't want to go out anymore, so take it one day at a time! that's my story
