I am a recovered alcoholic. Sobriety date 12/29/2002. I wanted to thank
you for your suggestions about discontinuing methadone. I was physically and
psychologically addicted to methadone prior to sobriety. Detoxing from met
was a torturous hell that I don't wish upon anyone. I was in the bed sick
and suicidal for 2 weeks. I thought I'd never get over the withdrawls. In my
experience, methadone became just another drug that I was addicted to. It
didn't help me in any way.
It did what the other drugs did; allow me to get out of me. I have met
people in the AA "fellowship" who are on methadone and claim to be in
recovery. I've yet to meet anyone in the AA "program" who is on methadone.
Like yourself, I feel that methadone did nothing for me but allow me to stay
"out there" longer. In short, I wanted to tell you I appreciate your
fortitude in putting the truth out there despite popular, politically
correct opinion. God bless you.
